What's New at the Fire Pit and Grilling Guru
It is now winter and the winter holiday season is upon us! While this means we can't enjoy outdoor grilling as easily, that doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying cooking with fire. In fact, this is one of my favorite times of year. During the summer it is too hot inside for the fireplace but now we can start firing up the fireplace to relax around each evening. But that isn't cooking with fire, some of you might be saying, but it can be! If you haven't already, check out my Fireplace Cooking section which has tips and ideas for cooking in your fireplace. If it was good enough for the early settlers (remember "Little House on the Prairie"?) then it is good enough for you! It is also not as hard as you might think. And what could be more romantic than a hearth-cooked roasted meal with your loved ones? I've even got some great recipes like string-turned leg of lamb or fireplace chicken.
While we are on the subject of fireplaces, be sure you have all your firewood and other fireplace supplies stocked up for a long winter! My Firewood section has tons of info about types of woods, cooking with firewood, how to start a fire, fire starters, buying wood and even a couple pages on firewood alternatives like the Duraflame logs and the new Java Log.
Here are some recent articles which I have posted to the Firepit and Grilling Guru:
Roasting Chestnuts in Your Open Fire!
This is a classic holiday tradition, but most people nowadays think chestnuts explode if you roast them so they don't do it! While it is true that they can pop if not roasted correctly, this can easily be remedied if you know what you are doing. Don't miss this winter tradition with your family this year. Find out all about the equipment you need and how to roast delicious, toasty chestnuts this year.
Duraflame Firelogs and the Java Log
Yes, even the Fire Pit and Grilling Guru has some some info about firewood alternatives. Sometimes a real firewood fire is impractical, either taking too long to build, lasting too long or requiring too much wood. While I will always prefer firewood, there are some good alternatives if you want a fast and easy fire. Artificial fire logs like the Duraflame are one option which are widely available. Recently, I got turned on to the new Java Log which is all natural and cleaner for the environment! They are available at Whole Foods markets and other markets who care about the environment.
Tequila Lime Grilled Chicken Recipe
Here's a new recipe I just through together late in the fall. It is delicious and almost impossible to mess up. You can cook it on an outdoor grill or fire pit but it could also be done in front of your fireplace, hung from a string if you get creative!
It may be winter, but it is never too early to start planning for next year's camping trip! I mentioned this new section last time but I have some more pages up already. Read all about Skewer Cooking, using a Campfire Tripod or ideas for a Campfire Grill. These will come handy for all you outdoorsy types!

I have a new feature available on the website which I recently introduced! I am really excited about this! I now have two forms which allow visitors like you to submit your own material for inclusion on my website! I love to hear from my readers and I know that many of you have great tips and ideas that can be useful to my other visitors. So I've set up two areas where you can share your expertise and be featured on my website. In addtion, in each area you can upload photos to support your submission so that you can show the whole world your grilling and fire pit expertise! I've already gotten a couple of submission and they are up for everyone to see and comment on.

This was my first submission! Jim let me know about his beautiful homemade fire pit. He says the tips he got from my Build a Fire Pit section gave him the confidence and ideas to get it started! It looks beautiful and his comments and photos are up on my site for all to see.
Debra from Texas submitted this great tip. She explains beautifully how to make some delicious, succulent corn on your barbecue.

People ask me all the time how I got started with building a web site and how they can do the same. Well here it all is in print.
